National Insurance Scam
Published: 01 March 2021
Over the last two months West Yorkshire victim data from Action Fraud, has shown an increase in the amount of reporting regarding automated telephone calls, telling them their “National Insurance number has been compromised” and in order to fix this and get a new number, the victim needs to ‘press 1 on their handset to be connected to the caller’. The caller is encouraged to either dial number '1' whilst on the phone or to ring back a number they provide in order to "resolve" the issue before action is taken. If the caller were to press one, they would be encouraged to part with sensitive information, which could then be used for fraudulent purposes.

If you come across anyone who has been subject to this call, simply tell them to hang up. Also provide identity theft protect advice. Below link to the Action Fraud guidance.
